I always enjoy doing engagement sessions for couples that book me for weddings. Its a great way to get to know each other and for the couple to see how I work and for me to see how the couple interacts. For me it often gives a good glimpse into how the wedding day will go when it comes to doing the bride and groom portraits, which is often one of the most cherished part of the day when it comes to the photos! When I met Rachel and Marcus for their engagement session, and even before I took any pictures, I knew their wedding day was going to be fun. Within minutes I could tell they are genuine, funny, outgoing and not afraid to have a good time. After that evening together for their engagement session, I knew that their day was going to be remarkable. And it was…
They got married at Landis Valley Christian Fellowship followed by a rocking reception at the Yellow Barn.
The day started out rather emotional. After Rachel’s hair and make-up were done it was time to put on a special dress. But not just any dress…her mothers wedding dress. Rachel’s mother sadly passed away when she was a child, but the memory of her is not forgotten and what a cherished moment it was to be in her mothers dress for a few moments and remember the incredible person she was. Rachel was also given a special picture of her mother which was strung to her wedding bouquet. I don’t think there was a dry eye in the room…not even mine.It was then time to put on Rachel’s dress because soon she would be seeing her groom for the first time…First looks are such a special moment on a wedding day. That moment when a bride and groom see each other for the first time is always a cherished memory. Rachel looked stunning, so it made for a great reaction from Marcus :)It was then bridal party time! We enjoyed roaming around the Landis Valley Museum with this bunch…don’t you love the colors they picked? And I adore the girl’s dresses. Oh, hello cute clutches! What a great bridesmaids gift and such a neat alternative to flowers. We had the perfect evening light just around the time we started Rachel and Marcus’ portraits. We were in heaven! It was beautiful and I think these two are the cutest thing…ummm..I think Marcus is a little excited don’t you?In memory of her mother, Rachel asked several women to come up front who have played an important role in Rachel’s life since her mother had passed. Each one was presented with a rose and again, there was not a dry eye in the place. It was a beautiful ceremony, they were officially married and it was time for the party and celebration to begin. And then it was party time….come on people..get up and dance!!!…and for the rest of the night, the barn was jammin’ and people danced the night away.
It was lovely working with Jonathan from Deep Focus Pictures. Be sure to check out Rachel and Marcus’ day through Jonathan’s eyes!
