Remembering the First Year

Remembering the first year

Ever since we brought our son Simon home from Uganda, I’ve been amazed at how quickly the time flies.  As I watch him run and play, I can’t believe how much he has grown in the short time that he’s been part of our family. He joined our family when he was 15 months old and there are times I wish we had even more photos of his first year of life to put into his album so I can remember his first smiles, or the first time he sat up on his own, or clapped his hands together when he heard “sooo big!” because we weren’t there for those moments. The photos we do have are cherished a billion times over and all I have to hold onto.

I met Karen last year when she brought her beautiful 3 month old Sophia in for a holiday mini session. Afterwards, she asked me if I could help document Sophia’s one year milestones and  I jumped for joy at the opportunity. Capturing those fleeting moments and memories is a huge honor and is one of the most favorite parts of my job. Sophia was 7 months old when we did her sitter session and oh. my. gosh….those expressive eyes! The sweet baby rolls! Her happy little tongue! I can’t take it!

Karen wanted images that really captured her spunky, fun personality at this age…and Sophia made my job super easy.  Her curious and excitable spirit shown through in every frame. I wanted to keep snapping a way to see what sweet expression she would show us next. Remembering the first yearRemembering the first yearRemembering the first yearThis sweet little up-cycled outfit I made might be my favorite thing EVER. Eek! :) Thanks to Goodwill and a simple template given to me by a friend, I sewed the sides, stuck on some lace and made the cutest little romper which looked so adorable with the wood bowl don’t you think?Remembering the first yearRemembering the first year

My hope is that when they are feeling nostalgic, Sophia’s parents can look back at these photos and remember the sweet baby smiles and expressions, her adorably cute chubby legs and those joy-filled and curious eyes. I had so much fun documenting Sophia at her sitter session and can’t wait to see her back in the studio to celebrate her first birthday in August.
